Evaluation 7 - Prelim

In our preliminary task our group had hardley any experience using video camera or editing. We were told by our teachers that our preliminary task was a chance to introduce ourselves to the camera and also have a go at using the editing software pinnacle. One of the main things that we needed to include in our prliminary was the use of match on action, the 180 degree rule and a shot-reverse shot. We feel that we used all these shots in our Preliminary task. We decided to use fades and other transitations. The only that let us down was the fact we filmed then within 3 seconds of film footage out sound didnt work or upload on to the pinnacle software.

The match on action showed the same shot but form a different angle or perspective, the 180 degree rule ensures that the audience are clear about where the actors are and the shot-reverse shot involves filming two people back and forth for example, in a conversation we used James and Pearce here and you see the conversation and over the shoulder shot. We used all of these three techniques in our preliminary task but after consideration concluded that we made a lot of mistakes that needed to be rectified before the final product. The first mistake we made was the match on action shot of pearce and james in a convosation yet we didnt use a tripod we filmed using no other equipment which we felt we could have improved considerably to make it more effective to the film and give it a more professional look. The next mistake we made was that the 180 degree rule was not adhered to and the audience could see the wrong side of the actors which made it seem unrealistic and unprofessional. We also made mistakes during editing for example when we were trying to build tension by using rapid editing we accidently cut out vital shots that were very important to the preliminary task. Lastly there was only sound for the first 3 seconds then the camera we used did not film the sound so it is mute throughout the preliminary video, as we were new to using these technologies we left it with no sound and it looks unprofessional.
