Final Piece

Above is our final thriller Identity. Thank you

Audience Feedback

Feedback is a important requirement when producing a film, it give the cast the analysis the feedback and let the audience make vital contributes which can be beneficial when undergoing the process of making another film, for the task James decided to interview Jack and Ryan ( two collages at school ) and ask them to watch the clip, analysis it and answer a few questions.

1) James : What did you enjoyed/thought was good about the thriller?

Jack : I felt the music helped build up suspense and tension. This was done well as various music stings were used to emphasis key points in the film

Ryan : The character ( The Girl ) has a good costume design and outfit , she was made to look a lot scarier than anticipated, which helps the audience keep engaged in the film.

2) James : What didn't you particularly like in the film?

Ryan & Jack : We both felt as if the costume on the other two remaining character could of been thought through a bit more , at times it come across as tacky and not very organised.

3 ) James : What did you make on the soundtrack?

Ryan & Jack : Overall the sound track was really effective it enabled the film to commence with certain music stings, this created added tension and suspense which we both enjoyed.

4 ) James : Do you think character roles were allocated to the correct people in the clip?

Jack : Yes, I think it is important your film is different and allows the girl to be the villain, it's a change to the norms which keep the audience engaged.

Ryan : I also think it is important especially in a physchological thriller to have the women as a villain, however if you was looking to clash and challenge the stereotypes maybe you could of swapped Pearce and James around.

This was a brief discussion we're we got the chance to ask students a few important questions, below is a photo of an gernal overview of the feedback we received  from other students, on the whole we was extremely satisfied with our result.

Evaluation Activity 7: Identity.

After our group watched our thriller we all decided that the use of camerawork and editing techniques that was used has been greatly developed since the preliminary task. When we reviewed our thriller the first example we noticed was the music, as it instantly creates a scary horrific vibe for the audience while this pans to show the location. This steps up another level compared to our prelim video as there was no sound or music, with music in a thriller this can create the whole tension and creepy feeling. Another example that we had improved on was using a tripod of James and Pearce walking into shot, using a tripod makes the film look much more professional and a higher standard. Additionally we had used fades in appropriate places from the first shot to the second they were put to link the scenes together without having a pause. Our fades were much rapid which is better for the audience as they won’t notice the editing.

Mise en scene was another thing we have improved from our preliminary task, we used props, a better location, there was broken glass, cupboards, burnt walls which makes the setting match the storyline whereas in the preliminary task there was no props, and the location was not really thought about. Sound makes our thriller much more dramatic and spooky. The music stings used are the right times to keep the audience on the edge of their seats and the level of tension increases as the film is going on.

Overall we have improved to a massive level from the preliminary task to our final thriller. We learnt what we needed to remember when filming, what the benefits and the disadvantages of filming were. All the important information we didn’t know from filming our prelim we knew for our thriller which made the process quicker. Our final finished film has a high quality of sound, mise en scene, editing and camerawork.

Evaluation 7 - Prelim

In our preliminary task our group had hardley any experience using video camera or editing. We were told by our teachers that our preliminary task was a chance to introduce ourselves to the camera and also have a go at using the editing software pinnacle. One of the main things that we needed to include in our prliminary was the use of match on action, the 180 degree rule and a shot-reverse shot. We feel that we used all these shots in our Preliminary task. We decided to use fades and other transitations. The only that let us down was the fact we filmed then within 3 seconds of film footage out sound didnt work or upload on to the pinnacle software.

The match on action showed the same shot but form a different angle or perspective, the 180 degree rule ensures that the audience are clear about where the actors are and the shot-reverse shot involves filming two people back and forth for example, in a conversation we used James and Pearce here and you see the conversation and over the shoulder shot. We used all of these three techniques in our preliminary task but after consideration concluded that we made a lot of mistakes that needed to be rectified before the final product. The first mistake we made was the match on action shot of pearce and james in a convosation yet we didnt use a tripod we filmed using no other equipment which we felt we could have improved considerably to make it more effective to the film and give it a more professional look. The next mistake we made was that the 180 degree rule was not adhered to and the audience could see the wrong side of the actors which made it seem unrealistic and unprofessional. We also made mistakes during editing for example when we were trying to build tension by using rapid editing we accidently cut out vital shots that were very important to the preliminary task. Lastly there was only sound for the first 3 seconds then the camera we used did not film the sound so it is mute throughout the preliminary video, as we were new to using these technologies we left it with no sound and it looks unprofessional.
